Grasshopper

algorithmic modeling for Rhino

Hello GH world!

Doing some research, i am interested in using GH to simulate tensile structures / tensile membranes which are applicable to minimal surface structures. This could turn out to be a great form finding tool!!
Is there anyone out there that has some definition of idea how this is done. Please I'm open to any suggestions!!!

Thanks in Advance!
Peace!!!!

Hi Christopher,

Well, you can start by studying the work Daniel Piker has been doing : http://spacesymmetrystructure.wordpress.com/

Whilst I'm not sure that it's very integrated with Grasshopper just yet, I believe that's a strong intention.

I've also done some work in my plug-ins with minimal surfaces and tensile form finding but haven't had any time to implement full dynamic relaxation into it yet. I thought I'd done a blog post on Costa's Minimal surface (created from a starting GrassHopper definition for constraints) but looking back I still need to fix some problematic mesh cleaning routines I wrote for adjusting the rhino mesher output. http://geometrygym.blogspot.com/2009/11/british-museum-great-court-... shows a slightly different mesh relaxation in operation, and if it's of interest, I'll explain the command and try to give this area of the plug-in some attention.

Cheers,

Jon
Thanks Jon

Kangaroo is now completely integrated with Grasshopper.
It may become a stand-alone plug-in at some point, but for now I think GH is a really nice way for users to interact with both its input and output.

I haven't fixed a release date yet, but it is on its way.

One can model any minimum and other surfaces in K3-Tent system much easier than in another system (see also YouTube video) It has free trial version with full functionality

The new version of K3-Tent system has been laid-open on the page http://tent.k3-cottage.com/ so previous installation should be substituted for the newer one.
