Surface minimization/relaxation in grasshopper??

Here is an egg carton i drawn using rhino, i would like to know if its possible that i minimize the surface in grasshopper to become something like the another picture.And can anyone give me the definition on it??If the 3d egg carton model was not drawn by one single surface, but by a combination of different surface with little gaps in between(due to my poor skills==), can i still minimize the surface???thanks.
