Straight Extruded "panels" hexagonal shape possible ?

I am trying to figure out how to create "perfect" planar surfaces when extruding or lofting hexagonal panels on a double curved surface, somehow I seem to miss a step in my thinking as they result in twisted panels ( see image with hex panels where some of them are twisted ) I guess I can still cut these out of thin material but I rather have them straight

I tried to use the straight loft ( with lunchbox hex panel plugin )

I tried to use the extrude edges with normal direction at the midpoint of the edge, this seems to work the best but then I cannot connect the top lines of the extruded surfaces ( they seem to be in different planes )

It feels like I need to find the average normal between 2 cells and extrude that direction, but I have no idea how to do that.

Anyways, any help you may have will be greatly appreciated as it feels like something small eludes me...
