Splitting curved surface at random(but a range) of lengths

Hi

I would like to ask if anyone has any suggestions on how I can cut and divide a curved surface into different pieces with random distances ranging from 300-480mm.  Because at the moment I am only able to cut them all at a length of about 480 which is the maximum length that I want.
