split surface - invalid surfaces

Hi,

I have a surface and want to split it with a bunch of curves (coplanar with the surface), but unfortunately the split doesn't work. I get several invalid surfaces and just a few splitters. 

does anybody have an idea WHY the split surface component doesn't work?
