Sphere Packing for Variable Size Sphere contours

Hello!

I have been using Grasshopper/Rhino for a little over two years now, however, my methods of scripting have been pretty limited to the utilization of a few of the simpler base tools to create complex structures and geometries. The project I am working on now seems to require some of the more complex tools, and I've hit a wall. 

The project: I referenced a script generated by a good friend of mine (and the wonderful ppl of the gh community!) Shown in the first attached image. My intent is to use this same method to apply sphere packing with variable size spheres along contours generated by structural load paths on a high-rise tower.

My biggest problem is that I can't seem to understand the behavior of the script; as soon as i start to manipulate and scale the original contour lines, either the spheres jump to a uniform size or something weird happens (see 2nd attached image).

Any suggestions for a similar result with a less complex script and/or help manipulating the current  script to achieve the desired result would be much appreciated! Feel free to contact me directly at abradford@ltu.edu
