selecting a range of points in a cloud, based on RGB

I have a series of meshes that have been imported as PLY files and then converted to point clouds using Volvox plugin. I'd like to use the color gradient to group the cloud into constituent parts based on a range of RGB. Any ideas?

The eventual goal is to show the difference or movement (x,y,z) of the colors as more clouds get added.
