Hi Danny,

there is no language "best for architecture". Here however are some factoids:

  • Grasshopper isn't a language like the other ones. Although I do consider Grasshopper to be programming, there isn't really a language to learn. That's not to say it's easy learning Grasshopper, just that you don't have to deal with syntax.
  • From within Grasshopper it's possible to use other languages, namely the ones you mentioned; VB.NET, C# and python.
  • VB is a friendlier language than C#, and I think most people writing scripts for Grasshopper are using VB.
  • C# is the more popular language world-wide. Most online resources provide C# examples rather than VB.
  • C# and VB are very very similar once you look past the superficial differences in syntax. In fact, there are websites that will translate VB into C# and C# into VB without fail. So, from that point of view it doesn't really matter which one you pick.
  • I cannot give you much info about python, I don't speak it very well. From what I know python is the least forgiving of the 3 languages, but it does have a number of very powerful features that make it popular amongst mathematicians, scientists and the adept programmer.

I'd recommend you start with Grasshopper (this is a grasshopper forum after all), because it's easy to move into VB/C#/python once you're comfortable with Grasshopper.
