rectangular grid subdivision

hi everyone,

im trying to create a cellular grid that subdivides into smaller cells based off given geometry.  ive gotten it to work, but now have a lot of overlapping geomerty. (where large cells line up with smaller cells).  basically, i would like each closed cell that is visible be the only geometry that exists there so that i can then use these cell's areas as an input for another definition.

any help is appreciated
