Grasshopper

algorithmic modeling for Rhino

Hi I'm new to grasshopper, so I'm sure this is really simple. I'm trying to recreate this panel and I want to offset the nurbs curve I made up and then somehow make a surface from that and the segments of my voronoi. So I put in the YZ plane as the plane I want to offset the curve in and it doesn't work!

I even tried just putting in a Z vector because that's all I want to do, and that doesn't work either.

I attached my definition here as well. Does anyone know what I'm doing wrong?

How about using Polyline smoothing for this? It's more reliable than offsetting, which may always introduce kinks in the result.

And with a bit of extra work you can also centre the ovoid shapes on the voronoi centroid points.

Hi,

how do you obtain the result of the picture posted by Jay?

Thierry

Don't know how that surface (mesh?) was made. I don't even know if it's a photograph or a rendering. If it's a photograph, I don't know how much manual labour went into the shape or to what extent the manufacturing process imposed characteristics on the final shape.

it seems that this picture come from Architizer site.

The material is Corian.

Here is a detail of the panel

Yep that's where I got it from. After I finish this I want to try to make the Fibonacci spiral one.

Wow thanks David! This method is working a lot better than the one I was using. Do you have any suggestions on how to loft the voronoi segments and my nurbs curve? The image below is when I baked it into rhino and then lofted it there. I can't get my loft to work in grasshopper.

Hi Mr JS,

here is a suggestion to loft the voronoi segments in Grasshopper.

and the result:

I hope this help
