algorithmic modeling for Rhino

Hi,

I have imported data into GH via excel CSV format and have sorted this into the various strings of data.

However; as soon as I try to use mathematical expressions with these strings, GH cannot convert the text of the strings into numbers, despite the fact that they ARE numbers (e.g. -0.3,0.2,0.1,etc). There are no <empty> or <null> values in my strings - just numbers.

Has anyone got a suggestion for this? I can see that if I don't sort this out now, my use of GH will seriously be limited and I will constantly need to swap between other programs and GH.

Thank you

After hours of tearing my hair out I have finally answered my own question. The reason is so simple that it's almost funny. As I am in France, all my excel tables were formatted using commas instead of decimal points!!! I won't make that mistake again.

could you share with us the final solution?

Hi,

Yes of course. In excel, my decimal separators were commas instead of decimal points, because I'm working in France. These commas were not recognised by GH as decimal separators, which meant that GH could not convert the string into numbers.

To solve this, the options need to be changed in Excel, such that the commas become decimal points.

Hope that helps.

thnx n.n
