Problem with finding area of a surface

I have been working on a script which creates a surface for a roof for my project.  It then splits the roof into panels and rotates them individually in order to allow for sunlight to get through.  I found a way which it worked for one of the surfaces, but the other four are having problems translating data from the splitsurface component to the area component, and it is causing me major difficulty.  I need to do this so I can filter out those surfaces which do not fit within the maximum area parameters I have set up.  I have attached the script.  The teal group is a group that is working, and the red group is the one I am having trouble with.  Thank you.
