Place multiple geometry on surface

Hello all,

I have a series of triangular planar surfaces creating a canopy of panels. Now I want to place some squares onto every surface as if they were cells. 

So far I´ve tried to create a grid with multiple geomteries and project, to place all the squares on a bounding box, to orient them...but nothing works. Anybody knows how I could do this?
