Optimised supports between 2 surfaces. T-splines/kangaroo?

I am relatively inexperienced grasshopper user and looking to increase my skillset by recreating a few projects that I find inspiring as I am having trouble finding quality tutorials. I came across this project that seems like a good challenge.

I presume it is created using some kind of physics solver such as kangaroo combined with t-splines? Could anyone outline the process of how one would go about creating something like this.
