Grasshopper

algorithmic modeling for Rhino

I am not sure if this a good suggestion at all, but (at least right now) I think it would be great if "the vector field thing" could be extended (a bit) so that you can use it (better) for building curves you would usually use the _curve command and control points for. (Or bezier curves, spiro splines...)

Like being able to constrain a charge/curve to a start and end point. Having a "point charge" that attracts and tangentially outputs like a point in a spiro spline. And maybe having "pushing" charges that look more intuitively to the whole curve creating process.

The setup you would need to create curves that way would probably still be looking overly complicated, but once you got it finetuning curves can be done in a very nice way, because slightly changing a "disturbing" force's position or strength is like changing 3 or more control points at once. But in a very controlled manner.

I doubt that my English is good enough to transport the idea, but what I am trying to say is that I think that in general there is a very grasshopperish way to create and think about curves by describing what happens to a straight line from A to B and at the end you plug the whole adventure into the rebuild component and let GH calculate the perfect nurbs curve from the hundreds of points the field line component gives you.

But I have to admit that I am not sure whether this is a good idea myself. Especially, because most people probably simply use control points and everything is good...

My other suggestions are very generic and have probably already been made. But what I miss most right now is:

- Panels automatically resizing to content if possible.
- When playing with a lot of fields a one-click power button to enable/disable one or more fields would be nice.
- It is sometimes confusing that a sender looks unconnected when a cable is hidden.
- Something like Ctrl+Space to open the search would be nice, too.

Shortcut F3 for find (which is the same for most applications in the MS world)

Shortcut F4 for the Create Box.

You can manually override these in Preferences > Interface > Shortcuts. But "Space" is not available

I do plan to give Fields a much more central place in GH2. There are a lot of simple number parameters that have positional characteristics and these should proably be converted to fields. Also the ability to transform and deform using fields sounds like a very good idea.

Wires will be redesigned (ability to delete, disable etc. individual wires) along with a range of other features that hopefully will make working with large files less of a chore.
