Moving a point along curve at random distances across a grid

Hi, I'm new here.

I have a grid of repeating units. I'd like this point to move to a different place on the curve in each unit, creating a gradient across the grid. I think the solution involves generating random items from a range or something, but I haven't gotten it to work.
