mesh thickness analysis

Hey grasshoppers, I'm looking for some advice of how to achieve mesh wall thickness analysis like in this picture.

This is the only reference to such analysis that I could find.

can you just point me to the right direction.

My final aim is to use this kind of information to variably offset the mesh inwards. If there is an easier way to do that I would be grateful. The idea is to have a high offset value (offseting inwards) but avoid overlapping edges where the mesh is not thick enough.(currently using weaverbird mesh thicken).
