Grasshopper

algorithmic modeling for Rhino

Hi there,

I am working on a definition of an interlocking pavilion but I got stuck on the part of preparing it for fabrication for the lasercutter. I can't find the right plane for moving the intersecting lines on the surface.

Below you can find the definition along with a few pictures.

Thanks in advance,

I have this connection on my table, there was similar pavilion done at IBOIS.

The problem with these structures that they buckle too much.

Do you have CNC for cutting in an angle, I assume joints are not 90 degrees?

Or does you laser can cut in an angle, else it will be quite unstable.

However you can use grasshopper slits component.

Then you will have to define their width by maximum intersection width because of angle.

If slits component will fail, let me know, I decompiled it changed some bits to make curves always planar to work in all cases.

Thank you for your fast reply. I haven't seen this pavilion from IBOIS, looks really nice.

Originally I thought that if you rotate it only on the X-as, the joints will always be 90 degrees but as you say there is a little bit of shift in it. However it is still a good exercise for learning.

thank you for the suggestion for the slits component.

After some weeks I finally got time to finish the grasshopper definition and making the architecture model.
