How to Trigger timer-based functions

Hi guys,

I am using a lot of timer-based GH functions (e.g. firefly blocks) for a project. Those extensions mostly require a "timer" block that allows to iterate the function within the block many times per second. Since I would like to optimize my data flow, I am in the situation where I don't neet to iterate a function many times, rather, I'd activate the fuction only under certain conditions.

Is there a viable way to trigger the function only when necessary (something like a pull request) rather than cycling the funcion many times per second?  

Is it possible to get there through rhinoscript?
