how to split the surface with maximum material length known?

I have a script now to help me get section surfaces out of a brep. But let's say if I need to put the waffled pieces into laser cut and the sizes exceed the material size.

1. How can I split the surfaces (in both directions) according to an input length I set?

Then can I control where the split occurs? Because if all splits happen at the same positions, the waffle would not be structural.

Another situation is to control where the split occurs, but gaps are created at the split. How can I get this done? This has reference to the AA pavilion.
