how to explode and divide triangular surface for diagrid?

Hello everyone,

in a tutorial on digitaltoolbox o ve found this "explode and divide" tutorial that allows one to extract a diagrid structure out of (nearly) any given surface and it seems to work perfectly on "fancy" blob-surfaces and squarish shapes.

but when i try it on a trinagular surface it gives me an interpolated square as a result...

not really what i wanted. does anybody has an explanation for that? does this operation need quads? this would really sound a little "old school" but i am not too much into rhino/grasshopper to judge.

thanks in advance

I think this is a rhino issue, have you tried _Shrink Trimmed Surface command?

Your triangle should be defined not from a closed polyline but just by picking corners with the _SrfPt command...

The triangle surface you are supplying is effectively a trimmed surface defined by three points and cannot be divided up in this way by GH. If you create a triangle surface out of 4 pts then it will work. To do this start and finish on the same point. i.e. 0 and 3 are the same.

thx a lot guys, special thx to danny - this is clear!
