how to completely trim surface from original object

Firstly my apologies for poor lingo or asking a question which probably seems an extremely easy fix, I am a newbie and trying my best to figure things out. 

In short I have created segments in a shape using the trim function and have attempted to panel these segments individually only to find in grasshopper that it still treats it as one object. 

How would I fix this?
