help: vector field describing the trajectory of water drops on an irregular surface

Hellousies !

i would like to make a vector field (following an irregular surface) that describes the way  water would run down this surface

is this even possible?

Thanks!

Define vector field. Are you looking for a bunch of vectors or to actually write your own Field type?

the second one

See attached for a cheeky way of doing it.

too bag gh 0.9.0015 isn't available yet :)

nevermind, still works, although some errors appeard.

that's funny, it's pretty much what i did, but i projected the lowered points onto the tangent frame (rather than the actual surface) in order to get tangents.

still, this isn 't exactly what i meant, i was hoping to create a vector field data entity

That is a bit weird then. Fields in GH are fully 3D, whereas the water flow is a 2D property. What should the vector field be like when you sample off the surface?

Still, it is possible -though not trivial- to define your own fields, see attached.

thanks a lot for taking the time to write that script!

i'll struggle to decrypt its logic 'though i'm not too familiar to VB

And here's the correct way.

sorry, i edited the previous reply when  i saw it does indeed work.

this second version does the same as my version, buy goes differently about it

is there a way to make an actual vector field variable, or it's not the kind of thing these can be used for?
