algorithmic modeling for Rhino

Help needed with a model based on Image Sampler: architectural stuff!

Ok,

As you can see in the ghx, the model molds to shape with help of the (contrast-)image put in Image Sampler.

I'm wondering why my model (that has a (morfing) grid-overlay) deviates from the surface it originated from. For instance with a simple gradient image of a cross, a 'church', the model shows inward deviations around the left and right 'wing', which are not meant to be. Also, the overlaying pattern is not distributed evenly around its surface.

Can anyone perhaps explain to a beginner as myself why the code does this and how it will be possible to get detailed results while using more complex gradient-images.

Hope to learn something new and helpful!

This is the cross image, I forgot.

A kick for the boards; can anyone help?

You're interpolating your samples which results in a weird surface to begin with.

Aren't all subsequent oddities just a result of this wonky nurbs?

I see, is it easy to set up a mesh that makes up for the surface? I have no clue how to make a mesh that uses my samples..

Would it perhaps make the most sense to create your lines on the floor and then move the end-points according to the image?

Thats exactly what I meant, thanks! I think what you propose is more sensible though. I have tried but can only come so far:
(btw how does that nifty preview feature work in Grasshopper?)
As you see, the pattern doesnt follow the loft surface.. how come?

With GHX this time!

The nifty preview is only for exporting. Press Ctrl+Q to create one of those images.

I don't understand what "the pattern doesn't follow the loft surface" means though.

Hi David, if you observe the Rhino image you will see that the 'under'laying pipe pattern does not wrap itself around the surface that I lofted previously.. Is this a result of my loft settings (namely: 'straight' instead of 'normal')?

Oh and thanks for showing how the preview thing works.
