Help applying a mesh color to my surface

I am working on creating a skin for my project.  I have run a solar study on the surfaces of the building.  From that I have a mesh.  I am trying to make the colors from the mesh to decide the size of opening the shapes will be.  The problem is I can note pull the information from the mesh and apply it to anything.  An image sampler will not work, and I am out of ideas.  

Any help would be great.
