algorithmic modeling for Rhino

 

Hi,

Currently I am exploring Kangaroo for a dynamic relaxation exersize for a large project down under. For this excersize I would like to form find a particular mesh by only relaxing the mesh in the vertical axis. is there any way you can define anchorpoints in Kangaroo that only work in the XY plane? If not is there a workaround? I know you can do this in GSA, but prefer to keep the whole project in grasshopper to enable the architects to play with the variables as well...

Hi Matthew,

Daniel or another kangaroo user can advise if it's possible to do this in Kangaroo.

If your objectives/requirements are more realistic material properties and advanced structural analysis attributes then it's possible to call on the GSA solver in the background (assuming the logistics of sharing the GSA license temporarily with the architect is resolved, or the 30 day trial is sufficient).

I assume the equivalent to my GH examples might be possible with Salamander, below is an example image of the gsRelax solver using the Geometry Gym connector (example files available from here: http://geometrygym.blogspot.com/2011/06/grasshopper-gsa-form-findin... and there's other examples including tensegrity)  I'm happy to explain more if you're interested in pursuing the GSA approach.

Not yet, but setting constraints in selected axes is something I'd been meaning to add for a while.

It should be very simple to add - I'll try and get something working within 2011 :)
