Grasshopper

algorithmic modeling for Rhino

Grasshopper 0.7.0001 (or rather, Grasshopper 1.0 WIP April-30 2010 as I've been instructed to call it) is now available for download from this location:

This version is a major change from 0.6.X and it is very likely that there will be numerous serious problems with 0.7 for at least a few weeks to come. I'm maintaining the 0.6.00059 download in case anyone needs to fall back onto a working version in a hurry.

Do not use this version on important work and do not overwrite files made with previous versions.

This new version is based on the RhinoCommon SDK which is still in its infancy and not anywhere near as tested and proven as the 'old' DotNET SDK. There's not that much new stuff in this release, it mainly represents a platform switch.

Here's a list of things that definitely won't work in 0.7:
  • It won't work in Rhino5
  • Sweep1
  • Sweep2
  • Pipe
  • Any custom components developed for 0.6.X
Here's a list of things that probably won't work:
  • Slider Animations
  • VB and C# scripts written in 0.6.X (I've tried to maintain legacy support, but I probably missed a few cases)
Here's a list of stuff we don't know won't work:
  • Yeah... wouldn't that be nice... I suppose this is where you come in.

Note that a lot of components have been shuffled in a desperate attempt to bring some order and simplicity to the over-crowded toolbars. Many of them are now only available via the drop-down panels. Others have been merged into new master components (Addition for example now works on Colours, Numbers, Integers, Vector, Points and Complex Numbers).

Have fun testing and don't claim I didn't warn you,
David

Thanks for integrating the catenary function. Comes in very handy.
BTW is it possible to install Version 0.6 and 0.7 at the same time?
Greetings from Munich, Wieland
Hi Wieland, yes, provided you can trick the 0.7 installer into not uninstalling 0.6, you can have as many Grasshoppers installed as you like.

Just move the entire Grasshopper folder from Rhino\Plug-ins\ elsewhere, then install 0.7. If you want to switch, then use the Rhino PluginManager to load either version on Rhino startup. You can't switch between grasshoppers once you've used a Grasshopper command, so you can only decide on rhino startup.

I have downloaded it but have not installed it yet. Did the cluster feature make it into this WIP

Many thanks
William
No, not yet.

The Remote Control Panel is also still missing. As are some other bits and pieces.

I think hidden icons can be emphasized and distinguished from already shown ones when you open the drop-down panels.
This will make the cost for searching the necessary icon smaller.

Thanks David!!
Thanks David. Awesome!
Hi, i'm trying to panelize a surface with Surface Box and Box Morph components and it doesn't work in 0.7 version, but it does in previous version 0.6. with the same file.
anything new about this components or anything not working?
i guess the fail is in Surface Box component.

many new good things in this version!
thanks
Hi Dani,

could be different, 0.7 is running in another SDK. Can you send me an example of this not working?

hi David,
i'm sending the example called Paneling Tool from Grasshopper Primer manual, which i also used to prove it doesn't work.
Attachments:
is it my setting or has the Panel Component changed. it is now center justified. can we have an option to left justify the text that is typed in
I agree, this would be a good feature to be able to choose justification and whether to word wrap or not.
The panel component has changed. It will center justify if it's displaying a single user String.
I can add overrides for this. Should it be a per-panel setting or a per document setting or a grasshopper-wide setting?
