gHowl and Excel static read,write dynamic components not working for me

When using ghowl to excel I get an error and no data is sent to excel, does gHowl not work with excel directly? Does it support older versions of excel? I have a newer excel but I am still running my old 2002 version.

Also I have a similar problem with the Excel static read write and dynamic components, none of them work for me. What versions of excel are supported by this plugin is there anything I can do to get these components to work?
