Grasshopper

algorithmic modeling for Rhino

Hello,

I'm starting an independent research project to develop a grasshopper definition for structural optimization for minimum construction waste. My hopes are that the end products will be a grasshopper definition but also a plugin for rhino performing the same operations. The intent behind the plugin is to make a more user friendly interface for people who are not familiar with grasshopper so they can perform the same tasks the definition would in the native rhino environment. It occurred to me that each operation in grasshopper has underlying code defining those operations. I wonder if there is a way to view this source code, and then compile a framework from these to create a script that performs those same tasks, or, if there are any programs that might perform a similar task as firefly, translating a grasshopper definition into code, but outputting rhino script rather than code for an arduino board. If anyone has any ideas or advice regarding this please let me know!

Best,

Ben.

Hi Ben,

components are pretty much black boxes. You can't easily get at the code inside, not to mention it would be illegal in many cases to disassemble a component written by someone else. To loosely channel Winston Wolfe; "It's... it's your future, I see a[n incredible amount of work]."
