Grasshopper

algorithmic modeling for Rhino

generating mesh with attractive force and deletions

Hi,

For a design project I wanted to create a hexagonal mesh with smaller hexagons where there are to be bigger forces and some deletions at locations where I want to create big open spaces. I wanted to create something that follows the idea of the natural minimal surface, like in soapbubbles for exemple, like the latest picture bellow.

So far I've found some other pieces of grasshopper-files and combined them so that I can already model the mesh and can control attractive of repulsive forces. But I've no idea how to continu to be able to make the deletions work. I've been looking around on the forum and the internet but wasn't able to find something usefull. Maybe anyone has an idea of how to handle this?

greetings

Glen

Try this for starters: http://www.grasshopper3d.com/xn/detail/2985220:Comment:154191

and give nervous system credit if you are going to post images of their work!

and if you bake the lines into rhino (after removing duplicates), then reference those into grasshopper, you will be able to remove elements.
For now you have to stop the simulation to remove them - you can't do it while it is running - that will have to wait for a later version of Kangaroo.

Hi,

This seems indeed to be what I was looking for!

I'm having troubles although with running Kangaroo. I pasted the file into my grasshopper - components file but I see no changes in grasshopper and if I open grasshopper files containing any kangaroo-components there is an error appearing. Any suggestions on this one?

thx

We've just been updating Kangaroo for proper compatibility with the latest versions of Grasshopper, and the download is now up at food4rhino.com

http://www.food4rhino.com/project/kangaroo

There are still some minor issues affecting some users to iron out, which is why I'd been delaying posting the link to this version - if you find you are still getting errors, try right clicking the .gha , going to properties and clicking unblock.

Thanks a lot.

I'm able to run kangaroo now.

Further the provided scripts solve excactly what I was needing.
