Grasshopper

algorithmic modeling for Rhino

Hi guys,

For my thesis I am working on timber shell structures, but I have some troubles with converting meshes, breps and surfaces. After form finding a mesh is obtained. From this mesh a single double curved surfaced is required to use lunchbox afterwards. Can someone tell me how to do this? I already searched this forum but could not find any real solutions for my problem. Thanks in advance

I added the grasshopper file

Hi.

It's a bit tricky but you can manage to do it anyway. Check attached. Best.

Hi Hyungsoo Kim,

First of all thanks for your reply!

So if I understand this correctly you exploded all mesh faces and sort all curves spanning in the short direction to find all discontinuities i.e. points along the curve to finally fit a surface through these points?

So why is it a bit tricky? I think it provides a good solution!

On the other hand I found an alternative solution today. From the Kangaroo output, ParticlesOut can be found. Using this for the create surface from points input, basically results in the same result. Is this not an easier way to achieve a surface?

Have a try. Kangaroo solver's particles output has different point order.

So, I don't think you can get the same result from "Surface fr Points".

Hi Hyungsoo Kim,

I gave it a try and from a visual point of view it does not differ (see pictures). I baked both models in Rhinoceros to compare them. To me it seems that both strategies yield to a proper solution.

Let me show your definition please.

If only you use mesh deconstruct point data from "Geometry Out" of Kangaroo solver instead of "ParticlesOut".

That is exactly the same as what I did in my last post. I thinks that is a more easier approach. Thanks!

My apology, I also used GeometryOut to extract the vertices with Weaverbird and than construct a surface through these points.
