Fish skin-Weaving strip

Hi all,

i,m making a big fish just like what Gehry did, but a little more complicated. The main problem comes from it's skin. It's made up of weaving strip which is 15cm wide. i can just get the weaving curves but can't develop them into strips. I try to offset them along surface but faild...... i need your help guys! 

Another problem is: how can i make sure that the apertures between the strips have the same size just like Gehry's fish?(I try to cut the fish into 2 parts, flatten them, then flow the strips along them, but failed:( )
