Grasshopper

algorithmic modeling for Rhino

Thought I would share this with everyone, seeing  much of it was done with grasshopper, python, and other tools. It is a look into data driven architecture and how we can start to change the process of design from one of forms to one of frameworks. Meaning, rather than the architect designing forms, the architect designs a framework that produces form based on contextual and user data.

Please feel free to comment or ask questions on the document page as I would love the input. The online document & video can be found at:

sorry if this is the wrong place to post this, let me know if I need to change. :)

awesome!

Hey Zach,

This looks great! I'm very impressed with the GeoCloud tool set you created for the project. Aside from the Why Factory project dealing with similar issues, it's difficult to find parametric frameworks being used in this mannor. I think this approach to architecture is very in tune to the profession with the mentality of designers, needs of clients and wealth of information. I've spent the past few months developing something similar but with a focus on a physical computing & tactile response as an information tool in collaboration with users. I will be making a thesis presentation soon and will make my documentation available shortly after.

Great job with this and I can't wait to see how it's accepted!

Thanks Brent.

It is an interesting way to look at architecture (as frameworks), and as you say, I think it is in tune with practice today. I would be interested in seeing what you have done. Good luck in the development!

Zach

Awesome Dude!!!

I did something very similar in my thesis, but you took to the next level... i haven't actually compiled the final video, but i have individual videos of the optimization process and growth based on the basis of contextual data and user input...

Here is a crude video compilation ...but its just videos stacked one after the other for now...

And the app is genius ... i tried to make one too using java but my scripting skills wasn't that great... the input always had to be changed from the script ...

And great presentation too...

How did the final presentation go?
