Feature Suggestion: Left-click item in panel will highlight object

Title says it all. It's just something I've been desiring for a while and thought I'd bring up after I googling the site didn't find anything.

Basically like a quick temporary list item or cherry picker alternative, latter which after a while get a little tedious to set up over and over.
