What is the error message that appears?
Elk can handle mountainous or any other terrains, as long as you have the valid .hgt file.
Try using different .hgt file. If the same error appears again, it might be the problem with grasshopper compatibility - it seems the last version of Elk was written for Grasshopper 0.8.0066 .

It says "solution exception: Cannot find file..." I also made sure my Boolean was set to "true" since the .hgt is 1arcsec. I will try running an older version of grasshopper and see if that helps. Thanks!

Try using a different .hgt file first.
I am not sure about the grasshopper version though.
At food4rhino stands that Elk is a 0.7-0.8 plugin. But again, the newest version of it (0.3.1) was released just a couple of days after the Grasshopper 0.9.0005 version. Just a coincidence, or not.
So it might be that the 0.3.1 is compatible with Grasshopper 0.9+ versions.
There is no documentation provided along with plugin, so I could not tell.

The 0.8.0066 didnt work. I will go ahead and try another .hgt file.

The new file still didnt work. I have to be making a stupid mistake somewhere.

Use the "File path" parameter instead of Yellow Panel.

I got it! After I changed to the file path and selected the file I noticed there was a .zip at the end of the file extension. I unzipped it and clicked the embedded .hgt file instead. It works now. Thanks so much for your help!
