Edge surface error

Evening all!

Im having a slight problem with edge surface component. Basically ive two surfaces, the second is a scaled version of the first and they are both identically divided.

But when i try and join the inner surface curves to the outer surface curves they randomly flip. ive tried flipping one set, but it does not seem to have any effect. ive also tried using the optional guide curve to no avail.

is this something im doing wrong, or am i missusing the edge surface tool?
