algorithmic modeling for Rhino

Distributing shapes randomly along a curve/surface and making joints where they meet?

As the topic suggests!

Is it possible to take a series of shapes made in rhino (say 4) and distribute them randomly (rotated, scaled and so on)along a curve or surface given that they have to touch eachother at one point (so they could be joined).

And when you have these shapes distributed randomly along the curve and they all touch each other in some point, make connection joints (slots in the shapes for example or a new "joint" shape (in 2d)) so you can fabricate the structure with a laser cutter?

good examples of what I am trying to achieve is the work of Marc Fornes. especially his Aperiodic_Vertebrae  But he uses Phyton and Rhinoscript if I am not mistaken?

Any help would really be appreciated! Maybe there are some threads already out there on this subject but I couldn't find them :)
