Grasshopper

algorithmic modeling for Rhino

Hey Everyone,

I had an idea for a new selection method that i feel like could be very useful in Grasshopper. Unfortunately, I only have the skillset to code very basic components so it would take someone much more experienced than I to do this.

Anyways, I digress.

I was curious to hear if anyone has ever considered adding a feature to Grasshopper that would allow users to select a piece of geometry generated in Grasshopper (in the Rhino Window) and in return cause the Grasshopper window to zoom to the component that generated the selected geometry. Essentially, It would just be the inverse of the selection method that currently exists; where when you select a grasshopper component, It highlights the geometry that it creates. I could imagine this being incredibly useful when grasshopper definitions get so large that it becomes hard to navigate around. This method would allow users to navigate directly to the part of the definition that generates the Specific geometry they wish to edit without having to sift through a massive grasshopper definition.

Hopefully that made sense. I've also attached a small screenshot of how I imagine it working just in case I didn't explain it well enough.

Thanks!

Hi Taylor,

it's not really doable at the moment, each component draws its own previews and there's no way for anyone (either Rhino or Grasshopper core) to know what gets drawn where. An entirely new approach to previewing needs to be developed which would break the SDK for GH1. Hopefully this will be achievable in future versions, and in fact some recent additions to the Rhino SDK have been made with this in mind.
