creating a perforated screen using a jpg

I would like to create a perforated screen in Grasshopper using a scaned drawing - TreeScreen.jpg. Im not sure if its possible but my thinking is that if I could get this image to apply itself to a plane and somehow subtract either the white or black space, I could then extrude the resultant and have my screen. Eventually I'd also like to be able to break up the screen into panels as well. Thoughts?
