Connecting points through smooth mesh

Hi!

First of all I'd like to congratulate Giulio Piacentino for his great Wavebird tools.

I've been trying to connect a cloud of points in 3D with the Giulio's Wavebird tools. However I have problems when the points aren't in a mesh (or surface) but in spacial connections. I have not found any example in grashopper (there propably are) however, I have attached one picture of Jason Hopkins where you can see the idea. I'm interested too in making different thickness in connections.

Maybe, one way is to connect the points with lines, set one sphere for each point, a pipe in every line and a deformed box in the connections, the join all toghether and smooth...

As you can see, I'm a bit lost
