Here then the different palette (as partly agreed). Normal objects are white, PreviewOff objects are dark and disabled objects are grey (and blurred icons).

As you will note, dark icons are difficult to read on the dark background.

When using Text Panels to group components together you can send it to the back by either using Ctrl+B or Arrange>>Put To Back from the Menu Bar
Hi Nathan,

all the colour settings are stored in a single xml file. Once the new version hits the "shelfs", I predict a lively trade in grasshopper_ui.xml files.

What do you think about a dark backround??
I have simply applied an invert color.This is the result.(You have consider only backround).

Excuse me,you must consider only dark backround into the canvas.
If the canvas background goes dark, everything changes. Wire colours, edges, drop-shadows, text, selection rectangles, cursor colours, compass colours, align-widgets colours and icons...
