Changing coordinates. Loft.

Hello guys!

I am going thru tutorial from this website and trying to make all exercises that are there. 

I want to make this diamond pattern. but ran into couple problems. 

1. I duplicated the original pattern, but I need to change the coordinates for the duplicate. My x-coordinate is ok, but my y-coordinate acts as x. What can I do about it?

2. When I am done creating the pattern, I want to loft it. Again, no luck. Loft is very simple operation, but maybe the problem is in pattern? I have no idea how to make it loft.
