algorithmic modeling for Rhino

can we sort points in 2 directions?

can we sort points in 2 directions?

 

for example.... if we have a random point cloud, we can easily identify the boundary, and probably can split it into 4 edges.  Then is there a way that we can ort all the points into 2 directions (a 2D matrix in the tree)

I am trying to experiment with the srfgrid component, but doesn't get any clues yet.
