Brain coral scripting strategy

Hi GH community,

I am trying to create a grasshopper definition based on the brain coral image attached.  I am still fairly new to the program and can't quite get a grasp on the needed components.  The intended form would be driven by a set of holes created over a surface that resemble the image.  My assumption is that a voronoi pattern would be a good start, then b-splines would be generated based on the points created to establish a relationship for the "brain coils" and the initial openings.  There are definitely some complexities and relationships that I am missing and any advice would be very helpful.  Thanks a lot!
