Applying wind force to irregular forms

Hello all,

I have been adapting the wind force script in examples to integrate with my own and have ran into a problem, when using a rectangular mesh plane everything works perfectly however I would like to experiment with using the wind force on an irregular shape (such as the one in the jpeg). I have tried plugging that in as a mesh from a curve but when I play the script nothing happens. I have attached the original example script found here:
