Alining circles?!

i need help for this: i want to align all these circles to the center of that staircase.

i created a line, each from the center of the circle to the center of the staircase (0;0;z value of circle-center) and used this vector/line for aligning the circles to the middle.

BUT that does not work... and i do not know why !

Ideas?
