Grasshopper

algorithmic modeling for Rhino

Hi everybody.

I apologize for my awful english, but I hope to be understanded. I think that the doubt that I have right now is something that is in the mind of a lot of people that wants to explore parametricism.

I´m an Architecture student, and I met Grasshopper almost 4 years ago. It has been very helpful in every phase of my design process. Is easy to forsee the consolidation of this kind of workflow as predominance in the next years.

However, I feel that my domain is for the most shallow although I have found me in some cases kinda stuck because i can't find solutions in the basic components or plug ins that are available to download and use however I want.

I know that an important step for all of us that wants to have a complete domain of geometrical information is programming knowledge, but I don't know where to start.

There's VB, C#, Python, Grasshopper itself with the "Sets" components...

Where to start? How to start? If I swim into general programming, how to apply it in Rhino or GH?

I really appreciate your sincere answers.

Regards

I think the best you can do is search for tutorials of scripting with grasshopper on google, or search simple code examples and try to understand what happens. No matter what language you start, I think it's best to spend a few weeks(or days) with one, a few weeks with another... seeking to understand the programming of objects, and when you know how to declare variables, choose the language best for you and focus on it. Gradually, seeing other examples and researching for yourself, you will be learning and gaining confidence. Then using the SDK you can develop your own tools. But I've been with this for almost a year, surely any other person will give better advice... How to start? Eating what you find.
