3d rectangular grid points and connecting them

hi all,

i know there is tons of way to make a grid but what i am trying is to connect specific points to each other with a line then divide the lines and connect those divided points after that.

base grid is the simplest grid, can be seen in attached files, but i wonder what is the best way to start making this grid to achieve  what i want with less trouble.
