algorithmic modeling for Rhino

Hello Karamba users,

I have a question regarding utilization of elements. Is it possible to make a beam that only utilizes push? The element would only be able to take push forces and not pull.

English isn't my first language so i hope the queston is clear.

Greetings,

Hi Raphael,

at the moment (Karamba 1.2.2) this is not possible in Karamba. This necessitates a physically nonlinear simulation.

A workaround could be to use the 'Tension/Compression Eliminator'-component (see manual). However this component does not always converge.

Best,

Clemens

Hi Clemens,

Thanks alot! That seems to do the job.

Kind regards,

Raphaël

Hi Clemens,

I have a followup question. It seems the 'Tension/Compression Eliminator' only works on beam elements and not springs. Is this true? I need to model springs that only compress. Is this possible?

Without 'Tension/Compression Eliminator':

With 'Tension/Compression Eliminator':

The component has removed the springs with tension but the resulting forces are not affected.

Kind regards,

Raphaël

I found a workaround by adding small elements between the springs and the beam:

The 'Tension/Compression Eliminator' component now removes those elements and with that the springs.

Dear Raphael,

thank you for the hint regarding the spring elements. Maybe this is a bug. I will check it.

Best,

Clemens
