Grasshopper

algorithmic modeling for Rhino

Hi all,

I am working with a pretty large definition and have been doing some housekeeping using clusters.  At times there are very large "chunks" that will cluster well, and other times much smaller groups simply do not cluster.

Are there limitations to the data types or number of inputs to clusters?

Many thanks,

Ben

I'd love to see some of these component groups that fail. It should never fail, but I guess if something starts throwing exceptions during a cluster operation it may well abort the entire process.

Not really sure why these would not cluster.  I have been tidying up to the best of my ability duplicate inputs and such and "best practicizing" as much as I can.  Any suggestions would be terrifically helpful.

Many thanks,

Those all look like native components (though it's a bit hard to see). Can you upload that part of the file, or mail it to me directly if you'd rather not make it public?

Hi David, Many thanks for getting back to me. It appears that while isolating (copy/paste to  new GH file) the part of the definition to send it to you, I was able to get the components to cluster. I if am unable to get this back into the working whole, I will certainly send it along. Thanks again for your speedy response.

One common reason that components fail to cluster is if you have selected a group of components that have "intermediate" elements that are not selected. For a simple example, you have component A, which feeds into component B, which feeds into component C - but you only select A and C when trying to cluster. Beyond this I have never encountered a cluster fail - and I've made some quite large clusters!!

Hi Andrew,

I am thinking you must be correct on this point.  At times it can be very easy to overlook a "loose wire" in a large definition.  I have been using your MetaHopper tools a bit to help clear this up for future definitions.  Thanks as always for your comments and contributions.

All the best,

Ben
